Córdoba Guitars & “Toy Story 3″

    News No Comments

World famous flamenco-pop group the Gipsy Kings recently recorded a fiery flamenco version of Randy Newman’s famous “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” for this summer’s upcoming animated blockbuster “Toy Story 3” using their signature Córdoba guitar models. Recorded in London at the storied Abbey Road Studios, the Gipsy Kings’ take on “You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Para Buzz Español)” will be featured in the film and on the official soundtrack. Over the past decade, Córdoba and the Gipsy Kings have worked closely to develop the group’s signature guitars: the thinbody cutaway 55FCE and the fullbody cutaway FCWE. The new Córdoba GK Studio model is based on the original FCWE.

“In Toy Story 3, Buzz Lightyear accidentally gets switched into Spanish-language mode, and there’s a fun Paso Doble-inspired dance between “Spanish Buzz”‘ and Jessie,” says TS3 director Lee Unkrich. “We got the crazy idea to have a band record a raucous flamenco cover of Toy Story’s signature song in Spanish, and we thought the Gipsy Kings would be perfect.”

On May 11, 2010, the Gipsy Kings appeared on the hit TV series “Dancing with the Stars” to perform the new song, playing signature Córdoba guitars during the live show. Watch the video.

Due for release this June, “Toy Story 3” is an animated 3D adventure, featuring Buzz Lightyear, Woody and the rest of the central characters from earlier films in the franchise. The “Toy Story 3” soundtrack will be available digitally from Walt Disney Records on June 15.

Founded in 1997, Cordoba is a leader and innovator in the acoustic guitar and ukulele market. The instruments are internationally distributed, and played by a growing, eclectic group of talented musicians. Learn more at www.cordobaguitars.com.

New Full-Body Fusion Model from Cordoba

    News, Product Release No Comments

Merging the best aspects of both nylon and steel string guitars, Cordoba Guitars’ Fusion series models are nylon-string guitars for steel-string musicians. The newest model in the lineup, the Fusion 12 Orchestra, is the first full-body (non-cutaway) model in the series. Available with a solid spruce or cedar top, rosewood back and sides, and a variety of mic and pickup options, the 12 Orchestra produces a warm, glowing nylon-string sound with the feel of a traditional steel-string.

Featuring Indian Rosewood back and sides, a multi-ringed, hand-inlaid, natural wood rosette, a lightweight Cedar neck, and an Ebony fingerboard and the option of either a solid Canadian Cedar or European Spruce top, the 12 Orchestra is the perfect blend of what’s best about nylon and steel guitars. A light Mahogany binding accents the body shape of the Orchestra, which is slightly altered from a traditional nylon string guitar. The thinner 1 7/8” neck is comfortable for any player, and the radiused fingerboard makes playability quick, comfortable, and easy. The tone is dark and punchy in the basses, with strong, round trebles and balanced mids.

The Orchestra comes equipped with a BBand A1.2 pickup, which has a volume control mounted on the inside edge of the sound hole. The 9-volt battery powered electronics are mounted in a small tube that is directly coupled with a high quality endpin jack making an all-in-one structure. The HZZless circuitry and UST (under saddle transducer) pickup produce a tone that is amazingly clear and pure.

Specs: Solid Canadian Cedar or European Spruce Top • Indian Rosewood Back & Sides • Ebony Radiused Fingerboard (16″) • 12 Fret Neck-to-body Construction • 650mm scale, 48mm nut width

    MSRP $755 | MAP $599
